Drawing inspiration from the Chinese Three Kingdoms period - "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon" features a star-studded cast, including Andy Lau, Sammo Hung and Maggie Q. They bring to life an age over 1,700 years old - first brought to the big screen in John Woo's "Battle of Red Cliff".

Hong Kong pop king Andy Lau couldn't make it to the occasion due to his busy schedule. There had been criticism that the armor worn by Lau in the film looked too Japanese. But director Daniel Lee stood by the authenticity of his new film - with everything in the feature true to Chinese history.

Daniel Lee said, "Japan derived a lot of its culture from its neighboring country, China. Sometimes, people just categorize it as Eastern culture. So it's an understandable misconception."

Action star Sammo Hung starred in the film, and choreographed the action. Showing up at the press gathering dressed in character, Hung was quick to dismiss rumors the decrease in action and increase in drama was a reflection of him getting older.

Sammo Hung said, "I'm still capable of fighting stunts. Age doesn't mean everything. And as an actor, I'd like to try different kind of roles."

The movie also stars Vanness Wu, member of the former pop group F4.

With a budget of 25 million US dollars, the pan-Asian production is based on the "Romance of Three Kingdoms" - a vast 600-year-old novel by Luo Guanzhong that ranks as one of China's four greatest classical literatures.
